Professional Photographers, No Cameras and Weddings

Three time NBA Championship Guard for the Miami Heat, Dywane Wade and former model and actress Gabrielle Union will be marrying at a famous hotel on August 30th and have asked guest not to bring cell phones and cameras to their all-star, A-list celebrity ceremony. And guess what?  The media’s not happy!

So what’s causing the stir?  Because their request knocked the middle man out. In the old days, professional photographers took all the pics and everyone, including the happy couple, had to wait at least two to three weeks to see the lovely pics.  Today, to ask someone to wait two to three weeks to build a house is considered outlandish.  But yet the Wades' took a bold approach and opted to give someone - that's been trained professionally and probably has a passion for pictures - the opportunity to photograph one of the most important days of their lives.

And as a result, the media will get to experience life without their press pass and finger-happy-selfie-snapping guests will just have to put their patience caps on and wait – like the rest of us and as it should be – to await the gorgeous pics of one of the most highly anticipated weddings of the year.  No one will be able to sell any photos to the highest bidder and photography order will be restored.  In an age of cell phones and selfies, the photography industry has taken a plunge. But thanks to the Wade’s, professional photographers have an opportunity to do what they're passionate about and that’s taking pictures of lovely couples – just like the future Wade’s.

So if you were thinking about making the same request – go for it! It’s your big day so why not tweet and post your own pics. Make everyone view your pages and enter your socialsphere!  Just be kind with your request and ample with your posts!  Or even better; wait for the professional photos and disburse weeks later.  I mean what’s the rush?  You paid thousands of dollars for a four hour wedding and reception; why not wait two more weeks and get more bang for your buck?

Etiquette and Cell Phones at Weddings

Three time NBA Championship Guard for the Miami Heat, Dywane Wade is about to marry the stunning former model and actress Gabrielle Union on August 30th.  The wedding ceremony is causing quite a stir because the adorable couple have informed their guest that no cameras or cell phones will be allowed during their all-star celebrity nuptials; scheduled to take place in a famous Miami hotel.

So what’s causing the stir?  Well, taking into consideration that the wedding is sure to be filled with A-list celebrities and athletes; all of whom live and breathe in the socialsphere; will probably consider their joyous 'union' (no pun intended) somewhat of a convenience, because many depend upon social media to boost their brands.   So what does the number one etiquette expert in the nation have to say about the subject?

Well according to the Emily Post’s Etipedia™, rule #7 specifically states that you shouldn’t ‘make calls in a library, theater, church, or from your table in a restaurant1.’ So technically since the Wade’s aren’t getting married in either, people should be allowed to use their phones.  But what there’s more.  The Etipedia™ speaks specifically about weddings.  Since the ceremony is at a hotel, according to wedding etiquette, the bride and groom should notify their guests by either invitation or they could “Print a tasteful little notice in [their] program ceremony, saying: “We wish to remind you to please turn off your cell phone ringer and refrain from using your cell phone during the wedding ceremony. Thank you!2

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen.  Were the Wade’s wrong in making their request?  Absolutely not!  And since they’ll be the ones shelling out hundreds of thousands to feed and entertain their invited guests, I think it only apropos that the guests adhere to their small four to six hour request.

So if you were thinking about making the same request – go for it! It’s your big day so why not tweet and post your own updates!  Make everyone view your pages and enter your socialsphere!  Just be kind with your request and ample with your posts!  Ready to order some social stirring invites?
